Different Ways to Help
We are seeking volunteers who live close to the Pūpūkea-Waimea MLCD to help care for the MLCD by reporting poaching and other violations to DOCARE. If you can help, please stop by the outreach tent. Each Saturday, we set up an outreach table at one of the three areas of the MLCD: Pūpūkea (Sharks Cove), Kalua-Māua (Three Tables), or Waimea Bay.
If you see a violation, please call DOCARE at 587-0077. If it’s after regular business hours, call their night line at 643-3567.

Hui Mālama o Pūpūkea-Waimea seeks volunteers to assist with our efforts to replenish and sustain the natural and cultural resources of the Pūpūkea-Waimea MLCD. Please stop by the outreach tent at either Pūpūkea (Sharks Cove), Kalua-Māua (Three Tables), or Waimea Bay any Saturday. (We are at one of those three areas each Saturday.) We monitor the human use of that area, conduct fish counts, and provide information to visitors. Each Saturday includes a mini-presentation on an aspect of the MLCD such as Hawaiian traditions and stories, common fish of the MLCD, and so on. The typical schedule is as follows:
8 a.m. Set up outreach tent
9 a.m. Beach clean-up
10 a.m. Begin outreach program
11 a.m. Fish survey
12 p.m. Presentation
1 p.m. Human-use count
2 p.m. Roving outreach to beach visitors
We provide on-site training each Saturday. Please join us for any or all parts of the day!
